EuropeActive and its national associations partners came together on Thursday, 1st December to discuss the results and impact of the 2022 campaign at the #BEACTIVE DAY conference held in Brussels. The 2022 #BEACTIVE DAY campaign proved to be a growing success with 3,876 events organised across Europe involving an impressive 701,695 participants from all over the continent. #BEACTIVE DAY also had a strong presence on social media, generating a reach of over 3.2 million people. The campaign, which represents the fitness and physical activity sector's contribution to the European Week of Sport, also involved a record-breaking 22 countries.

The conference started with EuropeActive CEO Andreas Paulsen reinforcing our sector's commitment to the European Week of Sport. Echoing his comments, European Commission Vice-President Margaritis Schinas underscored the importance of working with partners to further grow the European Week of Sport and #BEACTIVE DAY“It is initiatives like this that are really relevant to sport and physical activity across Europe. You succesfully managed to combine the fun - which is an aspect we should not forget- with the health benefits in your #BEACTIVE DAY campaign. We at the commission are grateful for your efforts and for the inclusive character of your campaign, encouraging participation all across our continent.”

Her EU Commission colleague Head of Sport Unit Floor van Houdt provided an overview of the 2022 European Week of Sport results to measure its impact at European scale. MEP and Co-Chair of the European Parliament Sports Group Tomasz Frankowski also delivered a video message focussing on the importance of European physical activity promotion campaigns.

EuropeActive officials and partners took the audience through the 2022 #BEACTIVE DAY results as well as the main highlights and testimonials of the campaign, including an update from UkraineActive and their experience running the campaign this year under exceptionally difficult circumstances. #BEACTIVE DAY took place on the kick-off day of the European Week of Sport on 23rd September, supporting the clear message from the European Commission on the importance of promoting more active and healthier lifestyles to millions of people in Europe. This year's campaign had a clear focus on how to better engage with women and girls, underscoring just how accesible and inclusive the fitness and physical activity sector is. Commenting on the campaign’s success, CEO Andreas Paulsen said: "I am delighted to see the growing and very positive impact the #BEACTIVE DAY campaign is having across Europe and beyond. I would like to congratulate and thank everyone involved in the campaign, especially our valued National Association Partners and their members across Europe. This year's campaign had a special focus on activating women and girls for their health and wellbeing. Our goal was to contribute to closing the gender physical activity gap, demonstrating our sector’s strong commitment to making all Europeans more active more often, irrespective of sex, racial or ethnic background, personal beliefs, disability, age or sexual orientation.”

“I would also like to profoundly thank the European Commission, EuropeActive’s President’s Council Members and our campaign sponsors FIBO for all their invaluable support and contributions to making #BEACTIVE DAY 2022 a continental physical activity success", he concluded.
